His Excellency, Rt Hon Chief Werinipre D. Seibarugu Speaks..
Former Acting Governor of Bayelsa State, Rt Hon Werinipre Seibarugu, has urged the people of the Niger Delta region to press for restructuring of the country instead of protesting against bad governance.
In a statement, Rt Hon Seibarugu opined that issues of restructuring and resource control should be uppermost in the minds of Niger Deltans rather than the concerns raised by the organisers of the impending nationwide protest.
The former acting governor emphasized that it was against the principles of equity, fairness and justice that people from other regions of the country were the ones benefiting maximally from the resources of the Niger Delta region to the utter exclusion of the owners.
He admonished the people of the region to engage the federal government, in liaison with well meaning people of other regions, to actualise a restructured country.
He expressed the hope that the Niger Delta region would develop faster and better in a restructured country.
While urging the federal government to passionately tackle the security challenges and youth unemployment which have given rise to grievances, Rt Hon Seibarugu advised the youth to accept the olive branch extended by the FG.
The former acting governor also urged President Bola Tinubu to take advantage of the present situation by engaging the leaders of thought of the various regions with a view to restructuring the country.
