.. Activist Charges Firm to do the Needful
TRACKING >>>Niger Delta activist from Kokodiagbene community in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State, Comrade Sheriff Mulade has called on the American oil giant, Chevron Nigeria Limited to immediately meet the age long demands of Kokodiagbene, which has been hosting CNL for over 40 years now.
The renowned human and environmental rights activist frowned at IOCs’ activities particularly Chevron, for the delay in supplying electricity from their stations that are few meters or kilometers away from their host communities in the Niger Delta Region.
He drew the attention of the Federal and State Governments to the fact that the multi nationals are the root causes of unrest in the oil rich region.
Comrade Mulade, a Peace Ambassador, strongly appealed to the Governor of Delta State, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa to prevail on Chevron to do the needful to avoid the breakdown of law and order in the riverine host community allegedly neglected by the Federal and State Governments, despite its huge contributions to the State economy.
He said that the host communities have lost confidence in the IOCs in the discharge of their Corporate Social Responsibilities, as well as blamed the Government for failing to give a sense of belonging to the host communities, Kokodiagbene in particular.
Amb. Sheriff Mulade said the delay and failures in oil firms to fulfill their promises to and the people’s expectations for their host communities have been the major causes of crises in the Niger Delta Region, and urged the oil firms to change their attitudes positively towards their respective host communities to ensure sustainable peace and development in the oil rich region.
