I Doubt Jonathan Is Still A Member Of PDP – Sule Lamido
A former Governor Jigawa State and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Sule Lamido, has expressed doubt ex-President Goodluck Jonathan is still a member of his party.
Asked if Jonathan is still a member of the PDP in an interview with BBC, Lamido said, “I doubt it; he has not been attending recent activities of our party.”
On why PDP leaders met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Ogun State, the former governor disclosed that party leaders went to discuss ways to get Nigerians out of the current challenges they are experiencing under the Muhammadu Buhari administration.
“Since the coming of Buhari’s administration Nigeria has not be itself as all the foundations for development laid down by PDP are all destroyed by this government.
“We have no peace, no unity, no integrity, no trust and there is abject poverty and we want to change these things. So that is why we decided to go and meet Obasanjo and we did so. We spent at least two hours discussing with him,” he said.
Naija News reports that Jonathan had lost his reelection bid to President Buhari in 2015.
The former president, who has been a member of the PDP since 2015, has been absent at major activities of the main opposition party.
Despite many seeing him as one of the leaders of the party, Jonathan was absent at the PDP convention that produced Senator Iyoricha Ayu as the chairman and other national officers.
With constant reports linking him with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Jonathan has had numerous closed-door meeting with Buhari at the presidential villa.
This online newspaper reports that two northern governors of the ruling party are behind a plot to field the Bayelsa born politician as a candidate in the 2023 general election.
