“I Was Gonna Go Kill Russo”: An Unreleased Audio of Hulk Hogan Reveals How the Conflict Between Him and the Head Writer Ended His WCW Career

WCW Bash at the Beach 2000 was the last time when fans saw Hulk Hogan in a WCW ring. The Hulkster has an amazing career at WCW, however; the conclusion was not that good.
At the Bash at the Beach pay-per-view, the crowd was ready for the main event match. But a wave of shock went through the fans when Jeff Jarrett intentionally let Hogan win the match. Decades after this incident, unreleased audio of Hulk Hogan has come out in which he is discussing the aftermath of the event.
Hulk Hogan and his conflict with WCW head writer
The audio is reported to be recorded less than 24 hours after his match against Jeff Jarrett. Even though WCW was struggling to keep the audiences hooked on its product, fans were expecting a good show at Bash at the Beach. However, things didn’t go as planned as Jeff Jarrett broke kayfabe and laid down inside the ring, and let Hulk Hogan pin him for the WCW championship.
Everyone, including Hogan, was shocked to see the scenario. This event caused a conflict between Hogan and the head WCW writer Vince Russo. In the audio, ‘The Hulkster’ explained that he was shocked to see Jarrett laying down. He even mentioned that he asked him to get up and wrestle but in response, Jarrett told him that he is doing what he has been asked for.
While talking about the discussion that happened between him and Jarrett, Hulk Hogan said, “I look down at Jarrett, ‘Is this a rib? Why are you doing this?’ Jeff goes, ‘You always told me to do what I have to do.’ He’s laying in the middle of the ring and I’m talking to him. ‘Get up and wrestle. Let’s stick it up this guy’s a**. You’re one of the boys.’ ‘You’ve always said do what I have to do. I’m doing what I have to do.’ ‘You’re a f*cking piece of sh*t.”
This made Hogan furious. However, he concluded the match by pinning Jarrett. After the match, Hulk Hogan was furiously looking for the head Writer Vince Russo. He mentioned that he was ready to kill him.
“I came to the back and said, ‘Where’s Russo at?’ I couldn’t find him nowhere. I’m shaking so bad, I’m ready to cry. Here comes Russo, he pops up on the monitor. I scream, ‘Get Nick out of here.’ I was gonna go kill Russo and I didn’t want him to see it.”
The conflict was so huge that Hulk Hogan left WCW and filed a lawsuit against Russo. Shortly after the incident, Vince Russo came out and revealed the intentions behind his actions.
The WCW head writer said that originally he booked Hulk Hogan to lose against Jeff Jarrett. But according to Russo, Hogan used his creative control and forced him to alter the storyline. He even mentioned that Hogan was fired from the company for the same reason.
Later, Booker T replaced Hulk Hogan in the title match. Hogan filed the lawsuit against Vince Russo which was dismissed by the court in 2002.
