IG denounces the attack on police officers and declares that police will no longer tolerate the trend.
Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
Usman Baba, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), denounced yesterday’s spate of attacks on law enforcement personnel and other men in uniform who were going about their legal business in various parts of the nation. According to Baba, the police will no longer tolerate such behavior.
Attacks on police personnel, who are dressed as state agents, were deemed illegal and disrespectful of the rule of law by the IG.
Therefore, the IG instructed all police commands and formations to make sure that anyone who assaulted a police officer, regardless of the circumstances, would face the full force of the law by being promptly prosecuted in courts with the appropriate jurisdiction.
According to a statement from Force Headquarters, the IG stressed the significance of respecting police officers’ and other security personnel’s fundamental rights in order to enable them to carry out their sacred mandate of serving and protecting the public and upholding law and order, even as he reiterated the force’s commitment to ensuring the protection of lives and property.
