Ihedioha: Supreme court fixes date for judgment review
TRACKING_____Rising from a one-day meeting in Owerri, a group of elder statesmen in Imo State, under the aegis of the Guild of Imo State Elders, in a communiqué, applauded the apex court for its acceptance to review judgment scheduled for February 18 2020.
The elders’ spokesperson, Chief Peter Mgbenwelu, said the elders are pained, having seen the avalanche of reactions from within and outside the country.
The elders prayed that the outcome of the review would restore justice, respect the electorate’s will and return normalcy to the state.
Mgbenwelu said: “As elders, the interest of Imo State is paramount to us. It is on this premise that we thank the learned justices for their courage to review the judgment. We have unshakeable belief in the Supreme Court, as the greatest force for the good of Nigerian people. And it stands as the pinnacle of other arms of government and should be above suspicion…
“The justices in their own words have said they are final, not because they are infallible, but will in some circumstances review their finality in the interest of society and the court. This takes courage, which we applaud and also pray that the best wishes and interest of Imo electorate win.”
