A call has been made for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to relieve Nyesom Wike of his duties as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The demand comes from Nicholas Igarama, Chairman of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Western Zone, who accuses Wike of disregarding the contributions of the Ijaw people to Nigeria’s development.

In a strongly worded statement, Igarama criticized Wike, alleging that he is unappreciative and could pose a risk to Nigeria’s economic stability. He also accused the minister of being envious and undermining the struggles and sacrifices of the Ijaw people in the Niger Delta.

Referring to Wike’s alleged remarks against the Ijaw people, Igarama questioned how many members of Wike’s ethnic group, the Ikwerre, had lost their lives fighting for a better Niger Delta. He condemned Wike’s reported statement, “Thunder fire Ijaw people,” describing it as inflammatory and unacceptable.

Igarama warned that if President Tinubu fails to act swiftly, Wike could damage his administration. He further emphasized that the Ijaw people are resilient and fearless, stating, “The law cannot kill Asawana. We are Ijaw people; we don’t know how to fear.”

The controversy has sparked reactions from different quarters, with tensions rising over Wike’s handling of political and ethnic matters. While Wike has not publicly responded to these allegations, the situation underscores the ongoing political and ethnic dynamics within Nigeria’s leadership.
