Imo State PDP denies rumours of a crisis of any form or shape in the state
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has denied rumors of a state-wide crisis caused by the composition of the Presidential Campaign Council.
The opposition party also clarified that the state strictly followed all of the guidelines, processes, and procedures established for the composition of the 2023 Presidential Campaign Council and Campaign Management Committee.
The clarification was made by the PDP in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Collins Opurozo, and made available to newsmen in Owerri, Imo State.
Recall that the All Progressives Congress, APC, claimed that Imo PDP leaders invaded the venue for the inauguration of the state presidential campaign council with armed thugs, forcing party men and women to flee for their lives with varying degrees of injury.
However, in a swift response, the PDP stated that the clarification was necessary due to rumors in certain quarters that the party is in crisis, primarily due to some non-existent shortcomings with the Presidential Campaign Council List.
“It is also important to state unequivocally that no single name was removed from the list already approved by the Presidential Campaign Organization for Imo State,” the statement continues. Any insinuation to the contrary is completely false.
“As a result, there is no crisis of any kind in the Imo State PDP as a result of the composition of the Presidential Campaign Council.” It should be noted that when forming the Presidential Campaign Council, all stakeholders were consulted and all interests were fully accommodated. Furthermore, the Presidential Campaign Organization in Abuja issued guidelines that clearly defined the required qualifications for each role or position on the Campaign Council.
“In a PDP-governed state, the Chairman of the Presidential Campaign Council is the Governor, whereas in a non-PDP state, the Chairman is the party’s governorship candidate.” In the absence of a governorship candidate, the chairman is either the state’s former PDP governor or the state’s most recent PDP governorship candidate. This is stated explicitly.
“The chairman of the Presidential Campaign Council for Imo State, His Excellency the Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, CON, is both the former governor of the state and the party’s last governorship candidate.” This cannot be argued.
“Finally, the inauguration, as previously announced, will take place on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at the state secretariat of the party in Owerri, on the strength of the written authorization granted by the Presidential Campaign Organization for the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council and Campaign Management Committee in Imo State.”
