Impeachment: Aiyedatiwa’s Kinsmen Storm Ondo Assembly to stop the process

Indigenes of Ilaje in Ondo State on Tuesday stormed the House of Assembly to protest against the impeachment plans of the deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
TrackNews Media reports that Aiyedatiwa hails from Obe-Nla, an oil-bearing community in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, and protesters are believed to be kinsmen from his area.
The protesters held placards bearing different inscriptions like “Justice For Lucky,”; Lucky Is Innocent, “Stop Alleging Him Wrongly,”; ” Ilaje Nation Stand With Aiyedatiwa,” and “Aketi, Lucky Is Not Your Enemy,” among several others.
They reportedly blocked the entrance of the Ondo State House of Assembly to prevent vehicular and human movement.
According to the protesters, a planned impeachment against the deputy governor means injustice to the people of Ilaje.
The leader of the protesters, Ola Juda, said the indigenes of Ilaje would not tolerate the impeachment of Aiyedatiwa.
He alleged that lawmakers had abandoned their Constitutional duties to witch-hunt the deputy governor.
“This pure injustice against the deputy governor (Lucky Aiyedatiwa), and we will never take this at all,” he said.
Meanwhile, earlier, it was reported that a Federal High Court sitting in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Tuesday halted the impeachment process of the Ondo State House of Assembly against Aiyedatiwa.
The House of Assembly had attempted to impeach Aiyedatiwa over alleged gross misconduct.
The presiding Judge, Emeka Nwite, passed the ruling on Tuesday after the counsel to Aiyedatiwa, Kayode Adewusi, moved the ex-parte motion to the effect.
The judge also restrained the Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, from nominating a new deputy governor and forwarded the same to the lawmakers for approval pending the hearing and determination of the substantive matter.
Justice Nwite held that after listening to Adewusi, he believed that the interest of justice would be met by granting the application.
