Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has announced that all internally displaced persons camps in the state have been closed due to improved security.

He made the remark during a Lake Chad Basin Commission meeting on Wednesday.

“Yobe state now enjoys greater peace and security,” said the Governor. “As a result, all internally displaced persons camps have been closed, as our displaced persons have since returned to their original communities or decided to permanently remain in host communities.”

“With the state’s growing peace, our administration has been able to rebuild basic infrastructure and restore public utility services, allowing our people to move around in search of legitimate means of livelihood.”

Mr Mijin Yawa Bakari, Governor of Cameroon’s Far-North, attended the Lake Chad Basin Commission meeting.

Participants at the meeting agreed to develop a global action plan to address the issue of trans-border insecurity while also boosting regional economic growth.

Trans-border insecurity has long been a source of concern in Nigeria and its neighboring countries of Niger, Chad, and Cameroon.

The one-day visit also covered the welfare and repatriation of Nigerian refugees in the member countries, as well as brainstorming on the strengths and weaknesses that would benefit the two countries.
