Hajiya Madina Shehu, the Women Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday.
Hajiya Shehu announced her defection after meeting with Governor Bello Matawalle in Gusau.
She stated that she left the PDP due to a lack of leadership style.
“I announce my defection to the APC alongside female PDP leaders in the state’s 14 local government areas,” she said.
Matawalle responded by describing Shehu’s defection as a positive development for the APC in the state.
“More PDP defectors are coming to APC; we will be receiving many PDP members, including their leaders, very soon,” he said.
On Thursday, Matawalle hosted the “Matawalle/Shehi Amalgamated Mobilisation Group,” a popular political support group in the state (MASAMOG).
The governor announced a 17-vehicle donation to the group.
“Two buses are for the group’s leadership, while another bus is donated to the group’s women’s wing.”
“The 14 Peugeot 406 Wagons are donated to group coordinators in the state’s 14 local government areas,” he explained.
Matawalle promised to continue supporting the group, which he saw as one of the great achievements of APC stakeholders’ reconciliation in the state.
According to him, the reconciliation resulted in a positive outcome in which all political stakeholders in the state are now united under the APC as one family.
He urged APC stakeholders, members, and all supporters in the state to embrace unity, peace, and stability in order for the party to win the general election in 2023.
Earlier, the group’s Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Danmaliki, described Gov. Matawalle and former Gov. Abdul’aziz Yari as “state pillars.”
He stated that the group was formed to cement the recent APC stakeholder reconciliation in the state.
“We are working to ensure that the reconciliation results in APC victories in the state in the 2023 general elections,” Danmaliki said.
