The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is still fixing its office in Awka attacked by unknown gunmen in May.

On movement of non-sensitive materials, Okoye assured that INEC would deploy materials from its Awka office instead of the earlier stated office in Owerri.

“The damage to the physical facility was extensive. So too was the destruction of movable materials, including 50 percent of the non-sensitive materials already delivered.

“While the commission is making efforts to rebuild the physical facilities, we took a decision to distribute non-sensitive materials from our South East Zonal Stores in Owerri in order to meet our deadlines,”

He said.

He listed them as non-pharmaceutical COVID-19 items, such as hand sanitisers, face masks, envelopes, posters, stickers, sellotape, scissors and liquid gum.

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) had opposed INEC’s plan to keep election materials in Imo.

Okoye said after a review of the deadline for the work on the destroyed Awka office, INEC is satisfied it would be completed by the end of September.

He confirmed that batching and distribution of non-sensitive materials would be done from the facility.

The commission appealed to all stakeholders to continue to cooperate and work toward a credible election in Anambra.
