Inefficiency, repetitive efforts reason for Nigeria power sector challenges – Expert, Barnier

An international energy expert and Chief Executive of ENACCESS, Vivien Barnier, has blamed inefficiency and repetitive efforts for Nigeria’s power sector woes.
The energy access advocate, Barnier, disclosed this in an interview with TrackNews Media on Thursday during an Open Source In Energy Access Symposium in Abuja.
He noted that the Nigerian government must invest adequately and wisely in technologies and knowledge sharing to tackle the country’s power sector challenges.
He stressed that knowledge sharing was a springboard to addressing Nigeria’s energy challenges.

“There is a lot of inefficiency in the sector, so many actors, not only in Nigeria, work towards the same goals and make repetitive efforts.
“I believe that people should work together and share knowledge to help address the challenges in the sector.
“Nigeria should be open and willing to try new technologies. Technology may not be cheap today, but it will be after a couple of years.
“There should be more investment in solar energy and other renewable energy”, he told TrackNews Media.
Recall that in March 2024, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, during the 7th Nigerian International Energy Summit in Abuja, said about 92 million Nigerians lack access to electricity.
Adelabu’s statement comes amid Nigeria’s persistent power sector challenges.
With over 200 million people, Nigeria still has 4,000 megawatts of electricity supply.
