Senator Jonah Jang, a former governor of Plateau State, yesterday urged Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to ensure the triumph of the main opposition party in 2023.

The infrastructural development initiatives that Rivers State Governor Mr. Nyesom Wike had put in place during a seven-year period were hailed as vast and unparalleled by Jang, who today represents Plateau North in the Senate.

He urged the former vice president to align himself with the governor of Rivers State when he made the call yesterday at the opening of the construction of inner roads in Omagwa.

The former Plateau governor praised Wike at the PDP’s inauguration yesterday for running in the party’s presidential primaries and for his steadfast support of the organization since 2015.

In order to ensure the PDP’s electoral success in the general elections in 2023, he advised the party’s presidential candidate to “close ranks with governor Wike’s powerful followers.”

“I want to urge our presidential candidate to unite behind all members, especially those in your (Wike) organization, of which I am pleased to be a member. By doing this, we will win the general elections in 2023.

“These men and women, as I’ve already stated, worked hard to establish this party, and they cannot be instantly forgotten,” he continued. We must put aside our differences and come together if you want to win the general election. You need each and every one of us.

Speaking on a variety of national topics, Jang bemoaned how President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration had mismanaged the economy.

According to him, Wike has maintained his commitment to the Rivers people even as his administration comes to a close by commissioning and launching new projects.

“Nigeria is currently experiencing a recession with an inflation rate of over 19.64 percent,” he stated. The amount of foreign reserves is decreasing daily, and external debt is at an all-time high. No infrastructure has been built as a result.

“There is no equivalent economic expansion. But here we are, on August 20, in the final days of the Peoples Democratic Party’s rule in River State, celebrating exemplary governance.
