The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of Jama’atu Nasril Islam, JNI, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, on Friday, called for adequate compensation for the families of the 47 cattle herders killed in Nassarawa State.

Track News recalls that about 47 herders were killed by a hovering drone in Kwatiri village, a border community between Benue and Nasarawa, while offloading their released cattles impounded by the Benue Livestock Guards, after payment of fine.

Reacting in a statement, the Secretary-General of JNI, Dr Khalid Abubakar-Aliyu in Kaduna, said the Sultan condemned the killing and called on the federal government to immediately fish out the perpetrators.

The group warned the government not to sweep the matter under the carpet, adding that the incident is one too many as the attack was calculated to instil fear in farmers and herdsmen in Nasarawa State.

The statement expressed solidarity with the government and people of Nasarawa State in the gruesome massacre of over 40 innocent Fulani herders in Nasarawa State’s Doma Local Government Area, after the slaying of hundreds of cows by unidentified persons, without any intervention from the security forces in the area.

The group said it’s advisable to visit the families of the deceased and sympathize with them, adding that a national broadcast after the visit would be very necessary, to dissuade reprisals, just as people are angered over many recent happenings affecting innocent defenceless people
