Journalists in Yobe suspend boycott, coverage of govt activities

By Adeleye Kunle
The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Yobe State Chapter has suspended its boycott of government activities in the state.
The decision to suspend the boycott was contained in a statement jointly signed by the Chapel’s Chairman, Ahmed Abba and its Secretary Michael Oshomah and made available to Track News on Tuesday in Damaturu.
“Following the earlier boycott notice issued to Yobe State Government concerning our operations in the state, the leadership of the Correspondents’ chapel met with the chief of staff to Governor Mai Mala Buni, Abdullahi Yusuf Gashu’a, where far-reaching decisions were taken to resolve the issues”, the statement said.
The statement added that the Chapel in its congress meeting agreed to suspend the boycott of government activities due to the commitment exhibited by the state government officials.
The chapel, however, assured to continue to monitor developments as they unfold.
“The chapel wishes to inform the public that it remains committed to the discharge of its constitutional obligations”.
Recently, the Correspondents’ chapel issued a notice, boycotting all activities of the Yobe State government over alleged intimidation and harassment of its members by security operatives attached to the government house.
