Just in: Banky W declares candidacy for House of Representatives (Lagos Eti Osa) in 2019
– Top Nigerian musician Banky W has officially joined politics
The star took to Instagram to announce his intention to serve as a federal legislator in 2019
– Banky will be contesting under the Modern Democratic Party (MDP), a party led by Prince Bukunyi Olateru-Olagbegi
Olubankole Wellington better known by his stage name Banky W has announced his intention to serve as a federal legislator, representing Eti-Osa local government area of Lagos state in the coming 2019 election.
Banky W made the announcement on his social media page midnight, November 10. In his post where he shared a campaign flier photo, Banky captioned:
“They said we don’t have the money to run.. we say we our strength lies in our numbers. They said we don’t have the structure, we say we will attempt to build it. They said “what if you lose”? I say, what if we win?
You see, my entire life has been a story of just dreaming dreams, praying about those dreams, setting goals, and working until they come true. I can live with trying and failing. I can not live with not trying.
So while we may not have a godfather, we do have God. And we have vision. And intellectual capacity. And integrity. And the right intentions. And last but not least, a whole lot of hope.
At the end of the day, hope may be all we have, but I believe that it is all we need. Thank you and God bless Nigeria.
#Hope19 #EtiOsa #MDP”
The Modern Democratic Party is led by Prince Bukunyi Olateru-Olagbegi, a 27 year-old youth activist and entrepreneur. The party along with 21 other parties received their certificate of registration from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in January, 2018.
According to Banky W during his declaration, “We want to fix Nigeria, but we must begin by rebuilding our communities. Everybody seems so obsessed with the presidential race – it’s one of the most frequent suggestions I get, ‘Banky W, run for President.’ I do believe in dreaming big, but I believe in starting small, and working your way up. And so, we are dreaming and building towards 2023 and beyond, but we are starting now. Hope is what we needed in ’93. Twenty-five years later, hope is what we need in 2019.”
The declaration event as gathered by TRACKNEWS.NG was attended by top Nigerians like Jumoke Adenowo, founder of AD Consulting & Awesome Treasures Foundation, Pastor Poju Oyemade, senior pastor of Covenant Christian Centre, MI Abaga, CEO of Chocolate City, Maryam Laushi, national publicity secretary of Modern Democratic Party (MDP), and Bukunyi Olateru-Olagbegi, founder and chairman of the Modern Democratic Party.
