JUST IN: Biafra Nations League leader ‘arrested’ by Nigerian Army in Imo – See Details
By Adeleye Kunle
The Nigerian Army is reportedly holding Princewill Chimezie Richards, Leader of the Biafra Nations League (BnL), in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area (LGA) of Imo State, TrackNews reports.
“Please understand that I may not have access to my phone. “After identifying me, the Nigerian Army has detained me in Isiala Mbano, Imo State,” Richards said in a terse message sent to Track News at 11:36 a.m.
Calls to Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Nigerian Army’s spokesperson, went unanswered. In addition, an SMS sent to his number did not receive a response.
It is unclear why Richards was arrested, given that the pro-Biafra group he leads is not illegal. He has recently formed an alliance with a contentious separatist, Simon Ekpa.
Richards had previously expressed concern about his impending arrest.
In an attempt to apprehend the separatist leader, the Nigerian Army and Police reportedly ransacked communities in the Bakassi peninsula.
In the region, he has been arrested twice.
