President Muhammadu Buhari and the inspector general of police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris, are currently holding a closed-door meeting at the presidential villa in Abuja.

The meeting which began shortly after prayers on Friday, January 4, is holding inside the president’s office in the villa, Premium Times reports.

Idris is expected to retire from service after reaching the mandatory 35 years in service. However there has been speculation that the president is considering extending the tenure of the IGP as the the 2019 general election approaches.

But members of the opposition have kicked against the idea, alleging that it was a plot by the current administration to allow the police chief supervise the rigging of the 2019 general election.

A source told Premium Times that the fate of the police boss will be known after Friday’s meeting.

Meanwhile, the Benue police command has announced the deployment of a new commissioner of police to the state.

According to a statement sent to Track News by the police public relations officer in the state, DSP Moses Joel Yamu, the new commissioner of police, Omololu S. Bishi, assumed duty on Thursday, January 3.

The statement revealed that he took over from CP Ene Okon, after a brief handing/taking over ceremony at the police headquarters.
