The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has closed its defence in the Enugu State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal but has failed to present witnesses.

TrackNews Media reports that INEC had failed to present its witnesses on Tuesday, citing hitches with its proposed witnesses.

Its counsel, H. Okoli, on Wednesday, told the tribunal that the commission had reviewed the case and decided that it could not present any witness.

The Labour Party, which is challenging the results of the election, alleged over-voting at some polling units, miscalculation of election results, and irregularities in Udenu Local Government Area of the state.

The party closed its case last Friday.

The second respondent, Governor Peter Mbah, opened his defence on Wednesday, denying the allegations that he forged his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate and engaged in malpractices.
