JUST IN: Police extend curfew in Bayelsa

TRACKING______The police in Bayelsa have extended the curfew imposed on the state following the riot that trailed the Supreme Court judgement in the state.
Violent protests erupted in the state after the Supreme Court voided the electoral victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate Chief David Lyon.
The Commissioner of Police, Uche Anozia, declared a dusk- to- dawn curfew from Friday to Sunday to check the breakdown of law and order.
Anozia on Monday extended the curfew to February 23 from 10pm to 6pm following what he described as credible intelligence available to the police command.
He said: “The Bayelsa State police command wishes to commend the general public over their good conduct in observing the dusk to dawn curfew imposed on the state as a result of violent protest that accompanied the Supreme Court judgement on Thursday February 13.
“On the other hand, in the light of credible intelligence available to the command vis-a-vis the prevailing security situation in Bayelsa State, the command has deemed it necessary to review and extend the curfew to Sunday February 23, 2020 with effect from today February 17th 2020 from 10pm to 6am.
“Members of the pu lic are advised to remain indoors as security agencies will be out to arrest anyone who violates the curfew and such outlaws will be prosecuted.
“They are also advised to remain calm as the command is poised to ensure the safety of lives and property in the state”
