JUST IN: Speaker and Deputy Speaker Hopefuls Abass and Kalu Meet with Lagos Governor [PHOTOS]
Two key contenders for the upcoming House of Representatives leadership positions, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas and Benjamin Kalu, have recently met with Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
TRACKNEWS reports that while the purpose of the visit is yet to be officially disclosed, there are indications that the meeting could have been aimed at building support for their Speakership and Deputy Speakership aspirations.
Earlier this month, President-elect Bola Tinubu selected Abbas and Kalu for the coveted Speaker and Deputy Speaker positions, respectively, leaving the North-central zone out of the top six positions.
Abbas, a lawmaker from Kaduna State in the North-west, was chosen as the preferred candidate during a meeting held at the Defence House, the official residence of the president-elect. Kalu, a lawmaker from Abia State in the South-east, was picked to balance the joint ticket.
Tinubu also reportedly selected Godswill Akpabio from Akwa-Ibom in the South-south and Barau Jibrin from Kano State in the North-west as Senate President and Deputy Senate President, respectively.
