Three people were killed on Saturday when suspected herders attacked Adaka community in Benue State.
Adaka is a settlement about 20 kilometres on the outskirts of Makurdi Local Government Area, Benue state capital.
According to a statement by Terver Akase, special adviser to the Benue governor on media and publicity, the attack occurred on Saturday.
Iorkohol Unande, a resident of the community who survived the incident, was quoted in the statement as saying the attack was “unprovoked”.
He reportedly said the attackers shot indiscriminately, injuring several persons in the community.
He said three dead bodies were recovered after the gunmen retreated.
Unande added that the victims, all men, had their bodies mutilated.
The incident comes two months after an attack on Gbeji and Ukohol communities in the Ukum area of the state, where about 60 persons, including two security personnel, were killed.
