Kaduna: Police warn against lynching of suspects

By Adeleye Kunle
The Kaduna State Police Command on Wednesday, warned against mob action, lynching and extra-judicial killings by individuals in the state
In a statement issued and signed by DSP Mohammed Jalige, he said the Commissioner of Police, CP Y. A Ayoku, who was seriously miffed at the unacceptable killings of suspected persons through mob actions, warned citizens to desist from such unlawful action as anyone caught would be seriously dealt with, adding that the barbaric act cannot be justified in the Nigerian law.
According to the statement, the responsibility of everyone under the law is not to pass judgment but to hand over anyone suspected of any infraction or offence, no matter the degree of suspicion, to the police or other appropriate security/law enforcement agency.
“In the recent incident of 2nd October, 2022 where two herders were mobbed and lynched at Birnin Gwari, the CP has assured that the ongoing investigations into the case will be thorough.
“Anyone found either directly or remotely involved in the sordid and reprehensible act will face the consequences of their illegal action as the full weight of the law would be brought upon them,” the statement said.
He advised residents of Kaduna State to always resist the temptation of resorting to self-help and taking the law into their hands as the command would not watch, while misguided elements operating under whatever guise engage in actions capable of truncating the peace and security of the state.
The Commissioner of Police further assured members of the public that the security forces in Kaduna State will continue to work assiduously to ensure the complete onslaught of the criminals in the state.
“The CP calls for all hands to continue to be on deck while soliciting for the cooperation of all segments of the society in the joint responsibility of securing the state,” he said
