Kano’s economy will be revived, says governorship candidate.

Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
Alhaji Muhammad Sadiq Wali, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Kano State, said yesterday that if elected, his priority would be to revitalize the state’s economy.
In an interview with reporters in Kano, Wali stated that his administration will use the Public Private Partnership (PPP) policy to boost Kano State’s economy and restore the state’s glory as the commercial nerve center of the North.
Wali served as Commissioner for Water Resources under the Abdullahi Umar Ganduje administration for two and a half years before resigning to run for governor in 2023.
“Our team is ready to help build the economy.” We believe in public-private collaboration. Kano is a for-profit venture. Most Kano residents are hardworking, and all they need is government assistance. As a result, we must encourage them.
“My administration will ensure Kano’s economic independence, and my administration will be tasked with encouraging and promoting small-scale businessmen and local/indigenous industrialists.”
“This is how countries like China developed their economies.” “We will develop policies that promote local industries and discourage policies that harm our local industries,” he said.
The Kano PDP candidate also stated that if elected, his administration will encourage “direct foreign investment” in order to improve the state’s economy.
He stated that he would use his vast experience in the private sector not only to provide quality leadership for Kano State’s people, but also to grow the economy through a reformed Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) system.
“Any government that prioritizes state development prioritizes infrastructure development in areas where commercial and business activities are booming, to pave the way for economic growth and increase the drive for revenue generation.”
“Due to the increasing population in urban areas, infrastructure facilities such as roads continue to deteriorate.” We need to expand and build infrastructure in areas where there are competitive opportunities.”
The PDP governorship candidate assured that his administration will ensure rural urbanisation in order to decongest the city’s growing population and to ensure even development by constructing infrastructure and industries in local areas where raw materials and human resources are readily available.
He also stated that Social Service Reforms (SSR) are on his team’s agenda, emphasizing the importance of re-orientation. It is all about refocusing people’s minds.
“We are coming into government to implement, sustain, and create wealth,” he said.
Wali also emphasized the importance of reforming the state education system.
