The Katsina State government, in collaboration with UNICEF, has launched the Nigeria Learning Passport (NLP), with the goal of enrolling 10,000 learners and teachers by the end of 2023.
Usamatu Mohammad Gona, the NLP’s State Coordinator, told journalists shortly after the platform’s launch that it is a digital learning platform with online, mobile, and offline capabilities that allows for continuous access to quality education.
He went on to say that the Learning Passport, which was delivered by UNICEF and the Federal Ministry of Education and powered by Microsoft with funding from the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), was free for all learners in the state.
“The platform makes learning possible even outside the confines of a school,” he says, “which will help address the spiraling number of school-age children who are unable to learn, particularly in states where insecurity prevents access to schools.”
“Most importantly, Learning Passport gives teachers access to high-quality teachers’ guides and resources, as well as digitalized capacity-building modules designed to help teachers deliver lessons in the classroom.” In Katsina, we intend to enroll 10,000 students and teachers in the state’s over 300 schools by the end of November 2023.”
However, the state NLP coordinator stated that the e-learning platform aims to enroll 4.5 million learners and 135,000 schools across the country by the end of 2023, and 12 million by 2025.
In addition, he stated that 30,500 teachers and school leaders were being trained on how to use NLP and integrate technology into classroom instructional practice.
