The Kaduna State government has called for more collaboration among stakeholders in the Tuberculosis elimination sector to fast-track the detection and treatment of TB cases within the immediate population.
The Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr Amina Baloni, during the World Tuberculosis Day commemoration, organised by the KNCV Nigeria, solicited more investment in TB elimination programs saying it would save millions more lives, and accelerate the end of the TB epidemic.
Insisting that ending TB is achievable if investments are guaranteed, she said despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the increased commitment by partners and resource mobilization will ensure the elimination of the disease.
As part of the commemoration activities, the Commissioner, launched the Wellness on Wheels trucks provided by KNCV Nigeria, the lead partner in TB support for Kaduna State, appealing for support in the training of technicians that would manage the trucks at no cost to the state.
The Wellness on Wheels, WOW trucks are an innovation introduced by KNCV Nigeria, to bring screening and TB case detection closer to the people and the community.
‘‘The fight against TB is a collective one. I call on all well-meaning residents of Kaduna State, Public and Private Organizations to join Kaduna State Government in Investing to End TB because it is achievable. I also call on all to avail themselves of this opportunity and get tested when coughing for two weeks or more and if confirmed to have the disease, to be rest assured that the disease is curable and treatment is free of charge,’’ Baloni said
