Kidnapping: ‘Madman’ arrested with phone, receives N1.5m alert
Men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested a “madman” believed to be a kidnapper in Akure, Ondo State.
But ironically, immediately the corps seized an Itel phone from the man later identified as Dele, a bank credit alert of N1.5 million reportedly entered his phone.
Dele was suspected to be a serial kidnapper who had participated in many heinous crimes in the state.
The state NSCDC Commandant, Mr. Pedro Awilli, who paraded the suspect and seven others for various offences before journalists in Akure yesterday, explained that the arrest was possible through the corps surveillance team while undertaking surveillance within the Akure metropolis as directed by the Corps General, Alhaji Muhammadu Gana Abdullahi.
He said: “Our QRS team on October 15 arrested one Dele, who is pretending as a madman, at Isikan area of Akure with an Itel phone.
“When our men arrested him and checked his mobile phone after some a few seconds he got an alert of payment of N1.5 million into his account.
“Immediately the alert entered, he forcibly collected the mobile phone and smashed it on the floor.
“We are going to repair the mobile phone to know and ascertain the person that sent the money to him and the persons who he is working for.”
The NSCDC commander, who vowed to investigate the issue, said Dele had been suspected to be a notorious kidnapper in the state.
Awilli urged the people to be security conscious and always report any suspicious attitude of madmen in their environment in order to avoid being kidnapped or killed.
He said: “We advise members of public to cooperate with the security agencies by giving us adequate, accurate and verified information that could help us carried out our mandate.
“People should watch their environment and to know the kind of people they see especially mad-man to know if such a person is truly a madman.”
