Kogi Governor Establishes Boundary Committee to Combat Insecurity and Crisis

By Adeleye Kunle
The Kogi State Government established the State Boundary Committee to manage all boundary issues from other states and within the state as part of its efforts to ensure peace and security among neighboring states.
Yahaya Bello, the state governor, made the announcement while speaking at the inauguration of the Kogi State Boundary Committee at the Government House in Lokoja over the weekend.
Bello explained that the relocation was necessary to maintain peace and tranquillity, as well as adequate security within and outside Kogi State.
The state is bounded by nine states, according to him, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa, Niger Benue Kwara, Edo, Delta Anambra, Ekiti, and Ondo.
The governor stated that the Kogi State Boundary Committee was established by the National Boundary Commission Act of 2006, which empowered state governments to establish boundary committees in their states.
As a result, he charged the members to do everything possible to ensure the state’s continued peaceful coexistence.
Bello recalled that there was a boundary crisis between Anambra and Kogi States prior to the arrival of the current administration in the state, noting that the state Deputy Governor, Edward David Onoja, is expected to chair the Kogi State Boundary Committee.
While speaking on behalf of other members, the Deputy Governor, Onoja, praised Bello for his initiative, noting that Kogi State is surrounded by the most number of states, and it is expected that the state will face crises and incidents.
He assured the governor, however, that all members of the Kogi State Boundary Committee would use their wealth of experience to navigate the murky waters that might arise during the course of their assignment.
