Kuwait cabinet resigns after disagreement with lawmakers
The Kuwait cabinet has resigned after a disagreement with the lawmakers.
Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf al-Ahmed Al-Sabah announced their departure.
Al-Sabah submitted his resignation to Crown Prince Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
The decision followed disputes between the executive and the legislature, which reconvenes Tuesday.
The ministers had kicked against the move to pass legislation they argued would strain state finances.
Both clashed over the assembly’s populist measures considered too costly and requests to question officials over economic management.
The outgoing cabinet, the sixth in three years, was sworn in last October.
Kuwait held its sixth election in a decade in September, forming an opposition-led parliament.
The oil-rich Western Asia nation is the only Gulf state with an elected National Assembly.
But power is domiciled in the ruling Al-Sabah family, which appoints the PM, cabinet, and can dissolve the parliament
