Kwara: Court remands doctor accused of sedating, raping patient
A Magistrate Court in Ilorin, the Kwara capital, on Thursday remanded a medical expert, Dr Ayodele Joseph.
The Chief Medical Director of Ayodele Hospital in Ilorin allegedly raped a lady who came for treatment in his hospital at the Sawmill area.
The police accuse the defendant of sedating the patient, a professional nurse, and having sexual intercourse without her consent.
The victim complained that Ayodele, who claimed to have 27 years experience, took advantage of her under sedation.
The suspect was arraigned on two counts of act of gross indecency and rape, contrary to sections 285 and 283 of the penal code.
Investigation led to the recovery of a video containing sexual acts on the patient; medical tests also confirmed she was sexually assaulted.
Prosecution counsel, Gbenga Ayeni informed the court of the gravity of the offence and requested his remand via a motion attached to the police report.
Magistrate Gbadeyan Jumoke Kamson granted the prosecutor’s prayer for Ayodele’s remand and adjourned the matter until May 18.
