Physically-challenged persons in Lagos state, with an estimated population of three million, have got the leave of the court to file a class action against the Lagos state government for alleged discrimination and dereliction of duty.
The Punch reports that Justice Idowu Alakija of the Lagos state high court in Igbosere on August 31, 2018 granted leave to one Ms Adenike Oyetunde to file a suit against the state on behalf of herself and all the physically-challenged persons in Lagos state.
TRACKNEWS.NG gathers that the judge, after entertaining an ex parte application filed by Oyetunde, through her lawyer, Olumide Babalola, granted the applicant “leave to apply for judicial review (mandamus) of the respondents’ refusal to perform their statutory duties under sections 3 and 25 of the Lagos State Special Peoples Law, especially for the making of guidelines for welfare of persons living with disability as well as prosecution violators of the law in this regard.”
Joined as defendants in the suit are the (Lagos state) Office for Disability Affairs and the general manager, Office for Disability Affairs.
Meanwhile, some Lagos state residents have raised concerns over what will happen to uncompleted projects embarked upon by the administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode following the failure of the governor to secure the Lagos governorship ticket on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
A number of the projects yet to be completed by the Ambode administration include the Pen Cinema Flyover in Agege area of Lagos, which is officially reported that is now at 60% completion stage and the 10-Lane Oshodi-International Airport Road, which is currently at over 50% completion stage, among others.
