LaLiga: The real reason I turned down Real Madrid’s offer to join Barcelona – Fati
Ansu Fati, a Barcelona forward, has explained why he previously turned down Real Madrid’s offer to join the Blaugrana’s youth academy, La Masia.
Fati stated that because Real Madrid did not have a residence for young players at the time, he saw La Masia as the best option.
At the age of ten, the Spain international joined La Masia from Sevilla’s youth team.
In 2020, the 20-year-old was promoted to Barcelona’s first team.
Fati explained why he chose Barcelona over Real Madrid (via Barca Universal): “Before I signed for Barca [Barcelona], I had a trial at Real Madrid.
“At the time, the club lacked a residence to house its young players.
“So, my father and I decided that Barca, with La Masia, was the best option.”
