Lone Accident Kills 21 Passengers In Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has disclosed that 21 passengers were killed in a lone-car accident in the state.

SP Mohammed Wakil, spokesperson of the command, disclosed that the accident occurred on Thursday involving an 18-seater Hummer bus.

Wakil who made this known in a statement on Friday, said, the driver who is yet to be identified, lost control of the vehicle coming from Hadeja, Jigawa State to Maiduguri, Borno State’s capital.

He explained that the driver lost control when the vehicle’s front tire burst, hence, hitting four other persons sitting beside the road.

The four victims were identified as Inspector Dauda Adamu attached to Police Mobile Force (10PMF) Bauchi, 42-year-old Sanusi Yusuf, 37-year-old Muhammad Sule and 45-year-old Mohammed Kawule, all of Udubo village of Gamawa Local Government Area of the state.

Meanwhile, the 21 passengers on board were burnt beyond recognition.

“On receipt of the report, a team of policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) promptly rushed to the scene and conveyed the victims to the FMC Azare for medical attention where they were confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

“The corpses were later released to their family for burial.

“However, the twenty-one (21) other corpses burnt beyond recognition were taken and deposited at the general hospital Hadeja.

“Furthermore, the Mobile Personnel identified passed away while receiving treatment at Federal Medical Center (FMC) Azare.

“The Commissioner of Police CP Aminu Alhassan psc (+) commiserates with the family on this irreplaceable loss.

“He also prays for the departed souls to continue to rest in peace.”
