Lukaku names manager to succeed Roberto Martinez as Belgium’s new coach
Chelsea striker, Romelu Lukaku has named Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry as the manager to succeed Roberto Martinez as Belgium’s new coach.
Lukaku said Henry knows Belgium’s staff and players, adding that he is the ideal person to take over from Martinez.
Martinez ended his tenure as Belgium’s head coach following the team’s early exit from the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The Spanish tactician was appointed back in 2016 and was out of contract after the 2022 World Cup.
“I say it openly: he [Thierry Henry] will be the next coach [of Belgium national team],” told Sky Italia.
“He has the respect of all the players, he has won everything. He knows how to coach, he knows what we have to do to get there.
“He knows the team, the league, the staff. For me, he is the ideal coach for our national team. [If it isn’t Henry], then I don’t know who they will hire. But I don’t think Belgium should start from scratch
