Man, 39, defiles 7-year-old girl, blames act on ‘burukutu’

A 39-year-old man has admitted to defiling a seven-year-old girl, blaming the act on drunkenness.
The man, Sadiq Ahmed, of Abuja Road in Yola Town, Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State, said Tuesday that he had carnal knowledge of the minor in the neighbourhood after taking a local alcoholic drink called burukutu.
The incident occurred on Monday, June 12.
The man who has been arrested by the Adamawa State Police Command, narrated the incident at the police headquarters on Tuesday, stressing that he committed the crime while he was drunk.
He said he took nothing unlawful other than the burukutu ( an alcoholic beverage, brewed from the grains of Guinea corn (Sorghum bicolor) and millet) and that he deeply regretted harming the little girl.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa State, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the arrest of Sadiq Ahmed, explaining that the suspect was nabbed after the victim’s father lodged a complaint.
The father told the police that the suspect came to his house while he and other family members were away and gave his daughter N10, got her away and defiled her.
