Man Kills Brother Over N200 Meat in Adamawa
A dispute over a N200 piece of meat turned deadly in Adamawa State after a man fatally stabbed his elder brother during an argument. The incident occurred on Sunday, March 9, 2025, in Waltadi community, Dumne, Song Local Government Area.
The suspect, Monday Murya, a butcher, stabbed his older brother, Friday Murya, after a heated altercation over the unpaid meat. The situation escalated when Friday took the meat without payment, leading to a confrontation. In the midst of the fight, their elder brother, Sinairu Murya, attempted to intervene but was also stabbed.
Eyewitnesses reported that Monday became furious after Friday refused to pay for the meat. As tempers flared, the argument quickly turned violent, resulting in Monday using a sharp object to stab Friday. The victim was immediately rushed to Modibbo Adama Teaching Hospital, Yola, but he later died from his injuries.
Sinairu, who also sustained stab wounds during the altercation, is currently receiving medical treatment at Dumne Cottage Hospital. His condition remains unknown as of the time of reporting.
Local residents expressed shock over the tragic incident, describing it as a needless loss of life over a minor dispute. Many in the community have called for justice, urging authorities to take swift action against the suspect.
As of Tuesday morning, the Adamawa State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the matter. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, stated that he had not yet been briefed on the incident. Investigations are expected to be launched to determine the full circumstances surrounding the killing.
