Mecure unveils West Africa’s first cyclotron and PET-CT scan for cancer.

Me Cure Healthcare Limited launched the region’s first cyclotron and PET-CT scan yesterday, making cancer treatment more accessible in Nigeria and West Africa.
A cyclotron is a machine that produces PET-CT tracers and other radiopharmaceutical reagents used to detect the physiological activities of cancer cells in the body.
This is in contrast to a traditional CT scan, which can only detect anatomical structures with limited precision.
The novel medical device mentioned on the sixth floor of Nigeria’s Me Cure Cancer Centre is expected to be the region’s first and most comprehensive world-class cancer center.
According to Mecure management, the arrival of the cyclotron will reverse medical tourism and reduce the stress and cost of cancer care in Nigeria.
As a result, all Oncology patients in Nigeria and West Africa can rejoice.
The services will be provided by certified and experienced professionals, and will be managed by Dr. Adeoluwa Adeniji, Chief Medical Director and Consultant Radiation/Clinical Oncologist, and Mr. Daniel Kassegbama, Chief Operating Officer with extensive management experience.
Following the unveiling of the cyclotron and PET-CT, Dr Monica Eimunjeze, Acting Director of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, commended Mecure’s management for establishing such a facility.
She explained that oncology is a noncommunicable disease that has been declared to be epidemic in the country at the moment, and that a facility like this was unquestionably needed and has a place within the healthcare system.
“Once established in Nigeria,” she says, “it will reduce medical tourism while also making oncology care affordable and accessible to all Nigerians.”
Those in attendance included representatives from the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, PCN, Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Pharmanews, PMGMAN, NAIP, Union Bank, Fidelity Bank, Bank of Industry (BOI), and CORDROS.
