Melaye discusses Tambuwal as “a traitor” to his ally Wike in the 2023 presidential campaign.
Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
Sen. Dino Melaye, the spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organization, has refuted the notion that Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal is a traitor for supporting the former vice president while his ally, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, was running for president as the 2023 election draws near.
Track News recalls that Governor Tambuwal resigned for Atiku during the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential primary contest in May, a move that led many to label him a traitor to his friend Wike. Melaye disagrees with those ideas, though.
“I don’t believe Tambuwal works for Governor Wike. They are close pals. So, the question of a traitor or not doesn’t come up,” Melaye said in an interview with Punch that was published on Saturday.
“I don’t believe they reached a consensus. If there was any sort of understanding, they wouldn’t be competing for the same job.
“I also believe that Tambuwal put the needs of the nation before his own interests.
He had a personal incentive to use the PDP to advance to the position of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. However, he discovered someone who, in his opinion, possesses greater capacity, expertise, and will provide Nigerians with greater democratic dividends than he will, and he decided to put country before self.
