Military Helicopter Carrying Chief Of Defence Staff In India And His Family Crashes
There has been a case of a military helicopter crash in India which was conveying the nation’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Bipin Rawat.
The family members of the military chief and some other officials of the nation’s military were said to be on board when the plane crashed in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.
It was gathered that 14 people were onboard the Mi-series helicopter when it crashed.
Though details of the incident are still sketchy, it was gathered that three people injured in the crash have been evacuated to a nearby hospital but their identities are yet to be revealed.
The crash has also been confirmed by the Indian Air Force, noting that investigations have been opened into the matter.
The 63-year-old chief of defense staff was traveling in a Russian-made Mi-17V5 chopper that “met with an accident today near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu,” the Indian Air Force said on Twitter.
“An Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident,” it added.
Before his appointment as India’s first Chief of Defence Staff on January 1, 2019, Rawat had been the country’s Chief of Army Staff for three years.
A military reform which birthed the Department of Military Affairs in India made him the nation’s first Chief of Defence Staff.
