More Stakeholders Back Governor Ortom For Senate Ahead Of 2023 Elections
Governor Samuel Ortom has again received an overwhelming backing of stakeholders from Guma to contest for the 2023 senatorial election.
The stakeholders, on Sunday, March 12th 2022 yielded to the Governor’s request to vie for the Senate seat, stressing that if there was any position higher than Senate, he has their blessings to contest.
This latest backing is in response to the continuation of consultations by the governor for the Benue North West Senate seat.
Speaking for the people of Ihyarev, retired Justice Augustine Utsaha and elder Anyam Kande for Nongov said they are fully behind their son, Governor Ortom to move to the Senate after his second tenure as governor.
Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr Tivlumun Nyitse, said Guma has a gold in the person of Governor Ortom and prayed that his aspiration be supported by everyone.
Mue Ter Ihyarev, Chief Augustine Shonyi and his Nongov counterpart, Chief Gideon Tiev on behalf of the traditional institutions in their domains also gave their blessings to the aspiration.
Ter Guma, Chief Dennis Shemberga and Tor Lobi, Chief Moses Anagende, while giving their royal blessings, also appreciated the Governor for his role in the creation of Agasha State Constituency out of Guma, saying the development was commendable.
The Ter Guma however lamented the renewed attacks in his domain by militia herdsmen which he pointed had resulted to the killing of 14 persons in two days.
He called on the Governor to hasten work on the formation of the Community Volunteer Guards in order to help protect the land.
Ortom, in a response, said he was humbled by the show of love for him by his kinsmen from Guma, pointing out that to whom much is given, much is also required.
The Governor had earlier informed the stakeholders from Guma that he had earlier sought and obtained the blessings of his kinsmen from Nzorov Council Ward and Nongov, in general, to vie for the Senate seat.
He promised not to betray the confidence reposed in him by his people, adding that they had given him more than he had bargained for.
