Moses Cleopas: ex-PDP chairman declare Bayelsa Senatorial Bye-Election
TRACKING___The immediate past chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa state and the leading apsirant, Hon. Moses Cleopas, has officially declared his interest to contest the Bayelsa central Senatorial bye-election to the leadership of PDP Bayelsa Central headed by the Vice Chairman Chief Hon. Nathan Wisdom today in Yenagoa.TrackNews recalled that on the 14th of February, 2020 victory of the duo of Senator Douye Diri and lawrence Erudjakpor of the peoples Democratic Party as governor and deputy of Bayelsa State, the Independent National electoral commission (INEC), declared the two senatorial seats vacant necessitating the electoral commission to begin preparations for a bye election to fill the above seats.Hon. Mose Cleopas, who spoke with newsmen in Yenagoa shortly after the decaleration, said he has concluded consultations with stakeholders in the party and has informed them of his ambition to fly the party’s flag in the 2020 Central Senatorial bye-election.The former state party chairman said he is qualified to seek the party’s nomination adding that he is better placed to represent the central senatorial given his experience in both the public and private sectors.He said he is ready to work with whoever will assist in the task of nation building.He said that he would give the people of Central senatorial a better representation at the red chamber of the National Assembly.He further said that it was high time the people of Bayelsa central senatorial stopped crying for marginalisation but stand up to be counted in the politics of Nigeria by voting for their best political brains to represent the zone at National Assembly.Hon. Mose, who said he believed that Nigeria needed to be restructured to reflect true federalism, noted that it was only the National Assembly that could tinker with the constitution to give Nigeria the restructuring it desired.He said that he developed interest to run for the position as a result of series of delegation from his Senatorial zone, both Youths, women and elderly that came asking him to come and represent them.He said that he was not in doubt that Central senatorial zone would be a better Senator considering his pedigree when served the state as party chairman.Some youths groups from, Southern Ijaw, Yenagoa and Kolokumo/Opukumo described Hon. Moses Cleopas as a vibrant young man with integrity, dependable, courageous and humble to the core.They said Hon. Mose is a friend to all, adding that his leadership style was worth emulating. They described him as a hardworking man who had been working tirelessly to ensure the unity and growth of the party and the state. They add that people like Hon. Mose were rare to find, adding that he had brought sanity to the party.They said, “We have in this regard xrayed many aspirants who have indicated their interest to represent the Bayelsa central senatorial district and have taken the pain to evaluate each and everyone of these aspirants, their background and political persuasions as well as their belief in our undying IJAW STRUGGLE. However, given the present unstable and unpredictable nature of our National politics viz a viz the growing National discourse on the shape of Nigeria’s democracy given the many unpalatable developments of security concerns, environmental challenges and the issues of fiscal federalism and devolution of power.Given the above, it is our considered submission that the good people of Bayelsa central senatorial federal constituency should see Hon. Moses Cleopas election beyond party lines and a further call to duty and one which is seen as an Ijaw project critical to our collective goal as a people.
