Muhammadu Buhari Gets New Presidential Appointment
President Muhammadu Buhari has gotten a new appointment as the president of the great green wall.
The minister of state for environment, Chief Sharon Ikeazor disclosed the new appointment at the 4th Ordinary Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government (CHSG) of the Pan African Agency for the Great Green Wall on Thursday, December 2nd in Abuja.
She said that the new appointment translated to the president working hard to tackle problems such as climate change, food security, desertification and Land degradation.
She said: “At the end of the 4th Ordinary Session of the CHSG, Nigeria took over the Presidency of the PAGGW. So for the next two years, Nigeria and President Buhari will be the President of the Great Green Wall Initiative in Africa.
“This means that within the period, Nigeria will work assiduously towards addressing the problems of land degradation, food security, desertification, Climate Change, depletion of the forest ecosystems and biodiversity in Africa, among others”.
The minister stated that she was certain the president would carry out his assignment properly as he was dedicated to addressing issues on climate change and desertification.
She also maintained that Buhari’s decision to restore over 100 million hectares of the degraded landscape for productive agriculture in Africa which he made public at the Climate Change Summit (COP 26) Side Event on the Great green Wall (GGW), showed he was capable of handling his position effectively.
