Nasarawa Assembly trains members-elect on legislative practice, procedure
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has organised a 3-day capacity building workshop for returning and new members of the 7th Assembly to be inaugurated in June.
The Speaker of the assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, declared the workshop, jointly organised in collaboration with Multiventures Resources Ltd, opened on Thursday in Jos.
He appreciated Gov. Abdullahi Sule for sponsoring the workshop and effective partnership as well as synergy with the legislature.
The speaker said that the training was to educate, enlighten and equip the members-elect on the legislative practice and procedure.
“First and foremost, I want to appreciate Gov. Abdullahi Sule for approving the workshop, as it will go a long way in boosting our legislative practice and procedure.
“I cannot thank His Excellency enough for the effective partnership and support to the State House of Assembly.
“It is my hope that the partnership will continue to exist throughout our tenure for the benefit of our people and for the overall development of the state,” he said.
Abdullahi called on the participants to take the workshop with all the seriousness it deserved to enable them acquire knowledge on Legislative Practice and Procedure.
He also urged the members-elect to be good ambassadors of the state in Jos while the workshop last.
The speaker assured the consultant and all other resource persons of support and understanding for the success of the workshop.
He wished his colleagues and other staff successful and fruitful engagement.
The speaker assured the members-elect of his determination to ensure that the achievements of the 7th Assembly surpass the current 6th Assembly.
Earlier, Alhaji Abdulhamid Kwarra, the Chief Consultant, said that the workshop was to impact legislative practice and procedure knowledge on the members-elect for effective service delivery.
“We are here to train and sensitise you on what you will do, if finally sworn in as members of your various constituencies,” he said.
Kwarra urged them to give their maximum cooperation to the resource persons.
Messrs Mohammed Omadefu (APC-Keana), Musa Ibrahim (NNPP-Doma South) and Hudu A. Hudu (APC-Awe North), all described the workshop as apt and timely as it would improve on their legislative skills.
They commended the sponsor of the workshop and assured of their readiness to use the knowledge to be gained to enact laws and pass resolutions that would have direct bearing on the lives of the people of the state.
The workshop featured various paper presentations as well as question and answer session.
