NBA Yenagoa Flays Violent Invasion And Contemptuous Attack Of Federal High Court, Yenagoa
The Nigerian Bar Association, Yenagoa Branch under the Leadership of Felix Okorotie, Esq. has flayed Thursday, 3rd December, 2020 violent invasion and contemptuous attack of the Federal High Court – Yenagoa, which reportedly resulted in Scores, including Counsel, sustaining injuries and incurring losses.
The Bayelsa’s parent Bar Association in a Media Statement jointly signed by Felix Okorotie, Esq. – Chairman; Michael Ekadi, Esq. – Secretary and Nelson Abali, Esq. – Publicity Secretary, on behalf of the Branch Executive Committee and Learned Members, described the ransacking of the Court as most sacrilegious and contemptuous; stating that violently invading and contemptuously attacking Court of Law, which remains the last hope of the Common and Uncommon Men and Women, in our jurisdiction, cannot be justified in any circumstances, especially giving that decisions of Courts are reached based on Facts and Law presented before the Courts by Parties and their Counsel as well as the fact that decisions reached by Courts in the State can be appealed against in higher Courts in relevant jurisdictions.
The Yenagoa Bar while warning Perpetrators and would-be Perpetrators of such or similar Acts to desist from repeating same or contemplating indulgence in such or similar forbidden Acts, adds that it is unreasonable for Litigants or their supporters to violently attack a Court just as it is unreasonable for a Fish to blame the Pot for cooking it instead of blaming the Knife which killed it.
The Yenagoa Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association while thanking God that no life was lost in the pandemonium, empathised with all those who sustained injuries and incurred losses, calling for increased Security cover for Courts’ Officials, Users and infrastructure.
The NBA Yenagoa Statement further urged relevant Security Agencies to ensure the deployment of commensurate intelligence to apprehend the culprits and bring them to book to serve as deterrence to others, as the desecration of the hallowed Halls of the Court is unacceptable.
‘As promoters of the rule of Law, the Bar is committed, more than ever, to ensure that the Courts remains dispensers of Justice, even if the Heavens will fall, the Statement concluded.
