The Nigerian Bar Association represents all lawyers admitted to the Nigerian Bar and is a member of all statutory bodies that govern the Nigerian Bar and Bench.

Mrs. Joyce Oduah, the Nigerian Bar Association’s General Secretary, has been suspended by the association’s National Executive Council.

Her suspension was ratified late Sunday evening at the NBA Annual General Conference, which is being held at the Eko Atlantic City in Lagos.

On August 15, the NBA’s National Officers suspended the General Secretary pending NEC ratification.

Nine of the eleven officers who voted to suspend her also voted to refer her to the NEC for disciplinary action and to recommend her removal from office for gross misconduct.

The NEC meeting on Sunday night considered the wise counsel of the Bar’s elders, including past Presidents and Senior Advocates of Nigeria, on the need to protect the Bar’s unity and the legacies of the Olumide Akpata administration, and resolved that the suspension be ratified.

Mrs Joyce Oduah’s appointment as General Secretary has thus been ratified, while Uche Nwadialo’s appointment as Acting General Secretary has been ratified.

The petition to remove Joyce Oduah from office, however, was stayed due to the pending court action on the matter.
