In the Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State, bandits have assaulted several communities, killing one person, wounding another, and kidnapping no fewer than ten people.
It was learned that one of the communities targeted was Ebbo, where a vigilante office was attacked, resulting in the death of one member and serious injuries to another.
The event happened on Wednesday night about 11 p.m., according to sources.
According to information obtained by Track News, the armed robbers assaulted several villages, including Angwan Dajin Gomna in the Kpada community, where they abducted five people, before moving on to the villages of Zago and lLafiyan Zago, where they abducted a second group of five people.
After a six-minute gunfight, it was learned that the vigilantes had defeated the bandits who had previously attacked the village of Ebbo.
The bandits were alleged to have marched from house to home looting the locals’ food supplies and other goods in addition to taking lives and kidnapping people.
According to DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the state police command’s public relations officer, who confirmed the event, suspected armed individuals attacked a vigilante office in Ebbo village via Lapai while firing intermittently.
“Unfortunately, the bandits shot and killed one of the vigilantes while injuring another. The PPRO promised that a police tactical unit had been sent to the region and that efforts were being made to capture the robbers.
