According to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom, Godswill Akpabio, a former minister of Niger Delta affairs, will be elected as a senator for Ikot Ekpene (Akwa Ibom North-West) in 2023, Track News reports.

The former minister ran for the party’s presidential nomination but dropped out in favor of another candidate.

Prior to the presidential primary, Udom Ekpoudom, a former deputy inspector-general of police (DIG), won the Akwa Ibom north-west senatorial primary on May 27.

Ekperikpe Ekpo also won a parallel primary, which was later canceled due to irregularities. Akpabio was declared the winner of the exercise after a rerun on June 8.

INEC spokesperson Festus Okoye had asked anyone who was dissatisfied with the commission’s decision to go to court.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Iniobong John, chairman of the APC media committee in the state, reassured that the former minister would be elected.

“There is absolutely no cause for concern, nothing to be concerned about.” He is confident that Mr Akpabio will be elected senator for Ikot Ekpene (Akwa Ibom North-West) in 2023.
