Clerics making New Year prophecies which are unfulfilled have been described by the general superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, as mere false prophets.

Speaking on Monday, December 24, during the church’s national retreat in Ogun state, the man of God said said everything written in the Bible was meant for the enlightenment of believers, Punch reports.

He spoke on the topic, Pure Faith, Precious Hope and Pre-eminent Love.

Kumuyi said: “What was written in Genesis, was written for our learning. What was written in Exodus, ‘When I see the blood, I will pass over you;’ it was written for our learning. What was written in Leviticus, ‘It is the blood that makes atonement for the soul;’ it was written for our learning. What was written in Numbers, ‘your sin will find you out;’ it was written for our learning.

“It is written in Deuteronomy, ‘If a prophet arises and he speaks a word and that word does not come to pass, note that man, he’s a false prophet.”

The preacher admonished his congregants to reject anything that can jeopardise their chance of making heaven.

The five-day retreat, with the theme, ‘Hope: Feasting after the famine,’ was attended by members of Deeper Life all over the world.

Giving illustrations from his own life, he told members not give up their faith for mundane things. According to him, he faced trials and persecution from family members, classmates, former church, principal, including a lecturer at the University of Lagos whom he called to order in class.

In an earlier report by TrackNews , Kumuyi had shown appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari for his tireless efforts toward transforming the country.

Kumuyi said: ”Please remain focused and courageous and do what is right. Not everyone will support you publicly, but we are praying for you so that your tenure will be one of progress and prosperity for the country.’’
