Cross River prohibits hawking along major highways in Calabar

The government of Cross River State has prohibited hawking on major highways, particularly the Murtala Mohammed Highway in Calabar.
Mr Tony Adinye, Chairman of the Cross River Pollution Control Agency, made the announcement on Thursday, July 21. Adinye, who stated that they have been dissatisfied with the unwholesome activities of hawkers of various wares, particularly corn sellers along the Murtala Mohammed Highway and major streets in Calabar, stated that the hawk ban decision was made to rid the metropolis of all forms of environmental pollution and to restore decency to the state’s aesthetic.
Hawkers and corn sellers have been directed to move to interior streets by August 1. Failure to comply, according to the state government, would result in arrest and severe penalties.
